There are so many applications to create and store PDF documents these days. I'll list the best and free ones : deskUNPDF, GIMP, OpenOffice, PdfTeX, LuaTeX, Prince, pstoedit and so on. Have fun!

Thank god it has a conversion option! I don't understand why Adobe itself doesn't offer a free conversion option, I always find myself looking for free widgets that will help me with conversions for word to PDF and vise versa!
